Cellissimo, Cello Festival in Galway
Cellissimo is a triennial international cello festival led by Music for Galway, as part of Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture in Ireland. The Music for Galway team briefed us to create a strong brand identity and website design.
At Cellissimo’s core there is a fundamental focus on collaboration, culture and diversity. However, we established that the overarching brand mission was to celebrate both the cello and Galway. We designed a brand to engage with a variety of audiences, be flexible for use across materials, and most importantly to “Rediscover the Cello in Galway”. The Cellissimo logo was designed by Ray McDonnell.

Cellissimo commissioned Kuros Torkzadeh to make a new cello from the Galway landscape, utilising different woods found in the area. Therefore, this formed a large part of our inspiration because we wanted to create a brand design that demonstrated this holistic approach and ethos.
We visually sculpted a cello silhouette out of the Galway landscape, selecting iconic landmarks and activities that resonate with Galway. We applied a bright and distinct colour treatment to our imagery to help achieve consistency across materials and brand recognition with audiences over time.

The new brand and website design is dynamic, fun and inclusive to all audiences, on a local and international level. By applying a consistent design style using our brand colours, typography and image treatment, we have created a memorable and very ownable brand identity for Cellissimo. The brand elements work together in harmony to communicate the festival messaging and offering clearly.
