Feis Ceoil

The Feis Ceoil is the biggest national competition for musicians in Ireland, with a wealth of history since it first launched in 1896. It provides musicians with a stage to perform in front of leading figures, fostering their talent and giving the opportunity to win prize money.

The Feis Ceoil 2020 formed a new partnership with the Royal Dublin Society (RDS). This change in circumstance offered the perfect opportunity to rebrand the competition and visually launch it into today’s music and culture communities in Ireland.

The rebrand and design materials needed to engage with a variety of audiences, be flexible to grow with future ambitions, and reflect the competition values, whilst acknowledging sponsors and presenting the new alignment with the RDS.

“Working with Marshall Light Studio on this project was a truly great – and enlightening – experience. We had many things to try to reference via the new brand identity: heritage, a wide range of musical disciplines, a broad demographic, a new partnership alliance, to name but some. Through a process of discussion, creative ideas (from their side) and collaborative refinement, we managed to achieve even more than I had imagined we would.

Their knowledge of the classical music world, their astute perception of the place of Feis Ceoil in the Irish musical landscape and their exceptional talent and work ethic has led to a brand identity that redefines Feis Ceoil in a modern context while retaining core elements of our long history.

The project had an ambitious time frame with diverse assets and formats to be produced. The project plan was clear; the schedule set out, agreed and adhered to and input from our side was always encouraged and acted upon quickly and efficiently. I feel that I have learned even more about Feis Ceoil through having gone through this process and am thrilled to get this new brand out there into the public domain. I can’t thank Fran and Sophie from Marshall Light Studio enough!”
